Exide Challenger

Martyn Smith and I designed this open 60′ yacht for Tony Bullimore to enter in the 1997 Vendée Globe Race. This was the first monohull to have twin wingmasts. Tony was to survive famously in the up-turned hull for four days in the freezing conditions of the southern ocean when the carbon-fibre keel snapped off in horrendous weather.
